The
Society was funded at this time by generous donations from British
Nuclear Fuels Limited, Sellafield Contractors, Cumbria County Council
and West Cumbrian Newspapers Charitable Trust. The Royal National
Institute for the Blind and Marchon Employee Charity also supported
the Society. The donations received also enabled the Society to purchase
essential equipment and to produce a quarterly newsletter.
CHARITABLE STATUS
In August 1992 the Society became a registered charity, and the profile
of the Society was rising admirably. A newsletter was now being sent
to 230 people, the majority of whom were receiving it on tape. By
1994, 263 people were receiving the newsletter. 144 receiving it on
audiocassette, 42 in large print and 77 in ordinary print. The database
of visually impaired people had risen to 87.
