From
1991 to 1993, Kate Dixon ran the Home Support Scheme from home, giving
people with a visual impairment access to equipment, benefit advice
and social outings. The Home Visiting Scheme ceased in 1993 due to
lack of funding.
In June 1993 an office was acquired on Strand Street, Whitehaven.
Karen and Audrey Ashbridge worked part time from Strand Street. Marie
Scott and Norman Waddington joined the Society as volunteers. On the
advice of Mr C Blair, Councillor, Marie applied to Copeland Council
for funding to relaunch the Visiting Scheme and £7,500.00 was received.
The Visiting Scheme now covered West Cumbria.
