HOME
VISITING SCHEME
The Society realised from the beginning that a home visiting scheme
was essential. This would help to alleviate the isolation felt by
elderly people. During the first year, funding was raised to employ
a Visiting Scheme Manager. Kate Dixon was appointed and set to work
recruiting volunteer visitors. Kate worked extremely hard for the
Society, putting in many hours beyond the call of duty.
Kate Dixon primarily had the task of finding out what care was needed
by the visually impaired in West Cumbria. Kate visited support groups,
blind clubs and liaised with the organisations, Royal National Institute
for the Blind and the Social Services, Rehabilitation Team, Workington.
Kate received 57 requests for a Home Support Visitor when the scheme
was first put into practice.
