SECOND
LOTTERY AWARD 2000 – 2001
In 2000 the National Lottery Charities Board awarded West Cumbria
Society for the Blind a new grant. This award was to continue salaries
for the Project Manager and Secretary/Information Officer and to employ
home support workers as the work of the Society had identified the
lack of services available to elderly visually impaired especially
the housebound. Four part time home support workers were appointed
to relieve social isolation and bring information and equipment to
people’s homes.
The Project Manager and Secretary continued to fundraise. Local businesses
including Sellafield Snowball Committee, British Steel, Safeway, Francis
C. Scott and the Rotary/Lions Clubs, all donated money to buy equipment
and to provide outings. Copeland Borough Council along with the R.N.I.B.
assisted with the building maintenance.
